A lot of fan theories have been swirling since the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War about the possibility of the undead popping up in the standalone battle royale mode as well as their dedicated Zombies mode. Based on a couple of hints that have been extensively documented on Reddit, players won’t have to wait too long for Zombies content in Warzone, as they may arrive as soon as Season 2. Previously there was a time-limited Zombies event in Warzone during the Modern Warfare era. https://twitter.com/EricMaynardII/status/1359981733286993920 One particular player made a screenshot of the most obvious hint in the game, featuring a Trial Machine lifted straight from the Zombies mode, textures and all, with a contextual button prompt that gives away the answer - it says “ZAI/ACTIVATE_ZOMBIES”. Granted, the button doesn’t work which is a bit disappointing considering the text. The Zombies are remaining deactivated for the time being. You can press the button and hope for a different result by checking out the Trial Machine in the Verdansk Hospital for yourself. The other big hint - and we mean it literally - is a huge cargo ship that has been ominously floating off the shores of Rebirth Island. When you peer at it through a scope, you’ll see the name Vodyanoy emblazoned on its prow. This gains meaning thanks to another, better hidden tease. There is a particular office in a particular building on the Rebirth Island map that triggers strange interference on the player’s screen, as well as some crackling lines of dialogue that seemingly emanate from an unseen radio.
When the exact location that triggers this audio cue was discovered, players documented the whole conversation, and translated it as the dialogue is in Russian. This once again mentions the Vodyanoy, as well as some cargo that it is carrying. In the lore, the Vodyanoy is known to smuggle the special compound Nova 6 between Rebirth Island and Verdansk. Incidentally, Nova 6 also appears in Zombies. While the name has a different origin, it’s quite fitting that “Rebirth Island” should get caught up in undead shenanigans, right? We’ll learn more as we get closer to the launch of Season 2 in Call of Duty: Warzone.
