According to Wall Street Journal’s Lauren Thomas, the former WWE chairman is “plotting” a return to the company he founded to find it a new owner, saying: Vince’s retirement came following allegations of sexual harassment and the alleged “hush money” payouts to different women all throughout the history of the WWE. The debacle brought a lot of negative press to the company, forcing Vince to step down after so many decades. Vince’s daughter, Stephanie McMahon, took over his father’s former role, serving as the co-CEO alongside Nick Khan. Meanwhile, Stephanie’s husband and WWE Hall of Famer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, returned to his former post as the WWE’s Chief Content Officer. The WWE is currently enjoying arguably its most popular run yet with John Cena’s recent return helping SmackDown post its most-watched episode in years. Much of the WWE’s success over the past few months has plenty to do with Triple H’s decision-making as the Chief Content Officer of the WWE. Should the reports be true, WWE audiences and critics will likely not take kindly to it. We wouldn’t be surprised if the current WWE regime stops McMahon in his tracks if only for a few months. The annual Road to Wrestlemania run is expected to start in a few weeks with the yearly Royal Rumble event. The WWE will want to stay on the good side of audiences for the next few months to guarantee the best turnout possible. Speaking of coming back, legacy wrestlers rumored for a return at WrestleMania 39 in April include Stone Cold, Goldberg, John Cena, and The Rock.
