How Will the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Update Pipeline Change?
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has seen its fair share of updates since it launched in November 2020. Unfortunately, more often than not, Ubisoft has had to update the latest Assassin’s Creed game, not to bring new and fresh content, but to fix launch issues. Apparently, Ubisoft’s desire to expand on the game’s existing content seems to introduce a bunch of other issues that need even more time to fix and improve. Perhaps for this very reason, Ubisoft saw that it was necessary to delay the release of the first Assassin’s Creed Valhalla expansion, Wrath of the Druids. With that said, you have to give Ubisoft some credit. The development team is owning up to its mistakes. In fact, the developers have been open in discussing how the update process works and more. To summarize the points made, Ubisoft wants to change its approach going forward in hopes of improving the situation. As we mentioned earlier, Ubisoft has extended their Title Update release cycle to 5 weeks so that they have more time for “thorough testing and refinement”. At the same time, Ubisoft also confirmed that the next update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, patch 1.2.1, will arrive on April 27.
What’s Next for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
Despite all of the recurring problems, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla remains a commercial and critical success for Ubisoft. As a matter of fact, Valhalla had the best launch week of any Assassin’s Creed game ever released. This resulted in Ubisoft enjoying its most profitable quarter in history. Now that it’s clear that people can’t seem to get enough of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, there are reports that Ubisoft wants to make the most out of this chance. In particular, Ubisoft is reportedly no longer working on a new Assassin’s Creed game for 2022. Instead, Ubisoft is planning on extending support for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla by releasing a third DLC. As of the moment, Ubisoft’s post-launch content roadmap for Valhalla includes at least two major expansions available via the Season Pass. The former, Wrath of the Druids, is set to arrive on May 13. After this, the Siege of Paris will release in Summer 2021. But, judging by the recent turn of events, Ubisoft might opt to delay the second expansion for Valhalla until much later into 2021, especially if the launch of Wrath of the Druids doesn’t go as well as planned. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s predecessor, 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, also had two huge expansions that Ubisoft released all throughout 2019. Both DLCs helped add dozens of hours’ worth of gameplay to Odyssey and expanded on the game’s story. Because of this and the success of Valhalla, Ubisoft might do the same with Valhalla.
