Is a Trailer for The Last of Us HBO TV Series Available?
As of the moment, there is no trailer for The Last of Us HBO TV series. However, we should expect HBO to release a trailer or two to help drum up the excitement and keep fans interested in subscribing to HBO Max after the premiere of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
What Is The Last of Us HBO TV Series Story?
The Last of Us is a first-party video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game was first released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 before being remastered for the PlayStation 4 soon after. It went on to win numerous awards in the years after its release. It is now widely considered as one of the best video games ever made and received a sequel The Last of Us: Part II, in June 2020. The award-winning video game revolves around the story of a post-apocalyptic Earth brought to ruin by zombie-like creatures following a mutant Cordyceps fungus outbreak in 2013. However, the actual events of The Last of Us don’t take place two decades following the outbreak. The game puts players in the shoes of a smuggler named Joel who is hired and tasked to smuggle a young girl named Ellie outside of an “oppressive quarantine zone”. While the TV show will adopt much of the story of the game, Mazin has clarified that they’ll add things that weren’t part of the video game. However, he did add that these changes are meant to “fill things out and expand” and “not undo”, which apparently will include a unique moment to the TV series that will reportedly make the audience’s jaws drop.
Which Actors and Actresses Are Involved in the Last of Us HBO TV Series?
— Dr. Uckmann (@Neil_Druckmann) March 8, 2020 As of the moment, we only know two actors and actresses with confirmed roles on The Last of Us HBO TV Series. Namely, it’s the story’s central characters, Joel, played by The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal, and Ellie, who will be played by another Game of Thrones alumni in Bella Ramsey. Both played their respective roles in Game of Thrones to perfection, with Ramsey proving that he can play a confident and fierce female character in Lady Lyanna Mormont, the young lady of the Bear Isles. HBO has yet to confirm if they’ve already cast actors and actresses for certain roles yet. However, we do know that joining the list of characters confirmed for the TV series includes Riley, Ellie’s girlfriend from The Last of Us DLC content, Left Behind. Also included are Tess, Marlene, and Maria. Another character that has been alluded to be a part of The Last of Us HBO TV series is Abby, a controversial character with ties to the militant paramilitary organization and an antagonistic faction known as the Washington Liberation Front. Mazin has also since clarified that the TV series will not change characters from their game counterparts. He also went as far as to assure fans that Ellie will retain her identity as part of the LGBTQ community.
Who Is Developing The Last of Us HBO TV Series?
As we mentioned earlier, Druckmann and Mazin will work together as writers for the show. Joining the two of them are Carolyn Strauss, who also worked with Mazin on Chernobyl, and Naughty Dog President, Evan Wells, who will serve as the show’s executive producer. Sony Pictures Television in association with PlayStation Productions will co-produce the show and it will serve as the first TV show of PlayStation Productions.
When Is The Last of Us HBO TV Series Premiere Date?
HBO hasn’t given the show a definitive premiere date as of yet nor a release window. However, there are speculations that the upcoming video game TV series adaptation will air as early as late 2021 if not early 2022. If we’re being honest, we’re banking more on the former. HBO Max needs as many big shows as it can to compete with the likes of Disney+ and Netflix. Going by their usual timeline, either of the two speculated release windows make a lot of sense. Case in point, HBO first announced Watchmen in 2018 before the show made its debut in 2019. Meanwhile, Big Little Lies debuted in February 2017, two years after its initial announcement in May 2015. Finally, Zack Snyder’s Justice League was formally announced in February 2020 and released a year later in March 2021. With that said, anywhere between a year to two years seems pretty standard for a series to air after its initial announcement.
Are There Other Video Game Movies and Series in The Works?
2021 and beyond has a full slate of video game movie adaptations and TV shows. The first to air is the Mortal Kombat cinematic reboot. After this, fans can look forward to yet another cinematic reboot in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which is a more faithful movie adaptation of the video game franchise. Other noteworthy video game adaptations in other media include an anime based on the Final Fantasy XIV MMORPG and the Dota 2 anime series, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, on Netflix, as well as a movie adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima soon.
