Chucky is a horror television show that debuted in October 2021. The series is based on the Don Mancini-created Child’s Play film franchise that premiered in 1988. It is a sequel to the seventh film in the series titled Cult of Chucky which was released in 2017. With a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Chucky’s first two seasons have been well-received by critics. The second season was also highly popular with viewers and it ranked as a top 10 cable drama for the 18 – 49 demographic in 2022. Given its popularity, it is only natural that Syfy and USA Network renew it for another season, if not more. On the renewal, Mancini had the following to say, “The cast and crew of Chucky would like to thank fans and critics alike for their overwhelming response to Season 2, which we’re delighted to announce has now spurred the official greenlight on Season 3. This news has made Chucky very happy. Thank Damballa for that because otherwise Chucky would have been frankly impossible to deal with. See you in 2023 for what Chucky himself promises will be his scariest season ever.” Chucky (the series) follows teenager Jake Wheeler, his family, and his friends Devon and Lexy, and their ordeal at the hands of the murderous sentient doll Chucky. Despite their best attempts, Wheeler and his friends cannot shake off the tenacious doll, which is inhabited by the soul of a notorious serial killer, Charles Lee Ray, and wreaks havoc on the inhabitants of Hackensack, New Jersey. Chucky stars Brad Dourif as the voice of the titular character. Dourif has voiced the character through all its iterations. Other members of the cast include Zackary Arthur, Teo Briones, Björgvin Arnarson, and Alyvia Alyn Lind. The series also sees Christine Elise, Billy Boyd, Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, and Alex Vincent reprise their roles from earlier films. In addition to his role as creator, Mancini also serves as a screenwriter, director, and showrunner. The Hannibal writer and producer is also one of the executive producers alongside Jeff Renfroe, Nick Antosca, David Kirschner, Harley Peyton, and Alex Hedlund. By the way, Mancini confirmed in November 2022 that there are ongoing talks about a crossover that will see Chucky star opposite another popular horror film monster. While there is currently no indication of who the monster will be, Mancini said to “stay tuned”. Chucky season 3 will debut in the fall of 2023. There is currently no information on its exact date or cast members, although they are expected to come to light as production progresses.
