With the first episode of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett now out, we decided to round up some of the things that stood out.
How Boba lost his iconic armor
Unlike in the comics, The Book of Boba Fett shows the bounty hunter freeing himself from the Sarlacc’s belly of his own accord. The menacing-looking and highly intelligent Jawas then raid the wreckage of the sail barge at night, quickly figuring out that Boba’s armor could fetch a high price on the market and noticing that Boba was not a droid. Because Boba was still injured at the time, the Jawas leave him for dead and take his armor. This sequence of events helps humanize the feared bounty hunter, which should help make his triumphs in future episodes that much more memorable.
The Return of Max Rebo
The blue elephant-like Ortolan, Max Rebo, is part of the Max Rebo Band and was one of several musicians stationed in the place of Jabba the Hutt. He was also on board the criminal underlord’s sail barge when the Great Pit of Carkoon blew it up. Since then, fans have been wondering if Max Rebo survived or not. Fans finally got their answer when The Book of Boba Fett premiered. As soon as the ruling duo of Tattoine walks into Garsa Fwip’s cantina, audiences can hear a remix of the Cantina Theme. The camera then pans over to the ban members, which features Max Rebo.
The Palace of Jabba the Hutt
If there’s one thing that long-time Star Wars fans will recognize at first glance, it’s Jabba the Hutt’s palace. The Book of Boba Fett strikes the nostalgia chords perfectly as it showcases eerily empty versions of places where Luke Skywalker re-emerged as a fully-trained Jedi, the throne room with a giant trapdoor, and the palace’s exterior that stands out against the sandy backdrop of Tatooine.

It appears that Boba did not take his time re-decorating the place. Among the many stand-out details from Episode 1 of The Book of Boba Fett is the oversized chair that fans caught a glimpse of in a post-credits scene for The Mandalorian Season 2. If you look closely, you can see old Sith tongue writing etched on the throne itself. When translated, it reads “Boba Fett.”
The parallel recovery of Boba and Luke
If you thought that Boba’s tank apparatus looks oddly familiar, it’s because it’s similar to Luke Skywalker’s tank from The Empire Strikes Back. Even the black feeding tube is the same. Perhaps the only difference is that Boba’s tank looks more horizontal and advanced, but they’re probably more or less the same.
Boba remembers the Star Wars prequels
Hardcore Star Wars fans will probably weep after seeing Boba recall the moment of his father’s death at the Battle of Geonosis. He also remembers how much it rained in Kamino.
Surviving inside of a Sarlacc
Adding to the long list of things that Boba remembers is how he spent some time inside the Sarlacc while another Stormtrooper corpse keeps him company.
The return of the flamethrower
Mandalorians are synonymous with flamethrowers. Jango Fett, Boba’s father, used them extensively in the original Star Wars prequel trilogy. Din Djarin loved using them too in The Mandalorian. Fans also know that Boba Fett has long had a ZX miniature flame projector, but he’s never really been seen using it until the premiere of the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett.
Notable Easter Eggs from The Book of Boba Fett Episode 1
You can see the wreckage of Boba’s sailing barge, the Khetanna, as Boba crawls outside of the Sarlacc. Tusken Raiders abduct an armorless Boba Fett, which confirms an earlier theory. Say hello to Boba’s butler, the 8D8, as it introduces a pair of Gamorrean guards, who many believe are the same pair that was seen in the original Star Wars trilogy. Fennec Hand uses Jabba’s menagerie to threaten the mayor’s representative when they refuse Boba’s tribute and demand one from him instead. After the fall of the Empire, the galaxy now uses currency with the logo of the Rebel Alliance.
When does the Book of Boba Fett Episode 2 release?
After the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett premiered last December 29, fans have been wondering when the next one will come. The good news is that it won’t take long. Disney+’s new original content release schedule involves a shift from the usual Friday release to Wednesdays, so The Book of Boba Fett episode 2 should arrive on January 5, 2022.
