Infinity Ward has announced the highly anticipated second season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. The developer has teased big things about the upcoming release but fans are disappointed that the second season will start on February 15, two weeks after the scheduled end of Season 1. The first season officially started on November 16, so it will be quite a big gap between seasons. Season 2 promises big changes and incorporates feedback from the community. The announcement also revealed some of the content that will be included in the next season.
— Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) January 18, 2023 “Our studio teams have been making several changes based on what we have heard from our player community,” the announcement reads. “Season 2 includes all new content, with the return of Resurgence and a brand new small map for Warzone 2.0.” The tweet adds, “Ranked play is also back and coming to Modern Warfare 2, along with new multiplayer maps, new modes, weapons, and much more.” Warzone 2 players haven’t been happy with some of the changes from the first game. Long-time Warzone gamers think that Warzone 2 is slower and removed some of the Quality of Life systems that made the first game popular. There may be significant changes made to Warzone 2 according to the announcement. “We look forward to sharing more details on the updates coming to Season 02 in a deep-dive studio blog next week. This includes exciting changes to Warzone 2.0 including the gulag, looting, and loadouts.” Details for the upcoming season leaked in early December. Season 2 will see the addition of a new multiplayer map called Castle which is part of Call of Duty Vanguard. A new operator called Ronin will be part of the new season. Also, Ranked Play will deliver more competitive modes and feature ranked skill divisions and a top 250 leaderboard as well as cosmetic items and skins as rewards for the top players. A new map is reportedly going to be added to the popular DMZ mode. The rumor suggests that the upcoming DMZ map will be smaller than Al Mazrah. The twelve-man Building 21 map was added to DMZ in the middle of season 1. The upcoming deep-dive blog will flesh out more details regarding the upcoming season.
