With Overwatch 2 set to kick off its beta test on April 26 following a currently-ongoing alpha period, certain details about the first-person shooter have begun to leak. Case in point, a leaked photo of the new hero select screen featuring a redesigned Soldier 76, who’s looking more battle-hardened than before. Now, there’s a new series of images posted online alongside a brand new game mode.
The thread contains several images showcasing the alpha build of Overwatch 2 with notable exclusions like Competitive, Arcade, Custom Games, and Experimental, but with something new - an “Unranked” mode that was not mentioned in previous leaks. Judging by where it is placed, Unranked will most likely replace Quick Play and let players enjoy the same rules as Ranked matches but without the risk of losing SR. What’s interesting about the photos is that it comes with hero icons that do not use the new designs for Overwatch 2. For example, Sombra isn’t using her new portrait and model, among others. Because of this, some are saying that the screenshots aren’t legitimate. At the same time, there are those defending the legitimacy of the snapshots, saying that the Alpha build means that the game is incomplete. For what it’s worth, some players could not care any less about the game’s new hero select screen. Instead, some are happy about the possibility that Overwatch 2 has an Unranked mode. Speaking of Activision Blizzard, the controversial publisher’s reputation has tanked in recent months. Several parties have lodged still-ongoing complaints against Activision Blizzard such as an anonymous employee claiming that she was subjected to sexual harassment and discrimination. Microsoft is currently in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard.
