While an improved version of the game, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, has been available for over a decade, fans can’t help but ask for a proper remaster or remake, especially after Final Fantasy VII, which was released in the same year, has received both. Having said that, it appears that a remaster of the classic tactics RPG title might be releasing soon.
Is the Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster confirmed?
Just a few weeks ago, the gaming community was in quite a stir after a GeForce NOW leak listed several unannounced titles that are currently in development. A few days after the leak broke out, Nvidia acknowledged the legitimacy of the GeForce Now list but warned that the listed games were speculative. However, ever since then, several games from the leaked list have been confirmed, including the God of War PC port. Fast forward to today and several users on Reddit claim to have received a survey along with a playtest invitation from Eidos Montreal. The survey mentioned several notable tactical RPG games, including Fire Emblem, Ogre Battle, Disgaea, and Final Fantasy Tactics. However, what’s interesting is that the survey appeared to place more attention on Final Fantasy Tactics. The respondents are asked about the spin-off series’ various versions and sequels, including Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, which are both set in the kingdom of Ivalice as well. Because of the several parallels between the playtest survey and Final Fantasy Tactics, fans couldn’t help but speculate that a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster was in the works. Of course, nothing is confirmed at the moment. You should take everything that you just read with a grain of salt. What is clear though is that Eidos-Montreal is looking for playtesters who are familiar with classic tactical RPG titles. In the meantime, players can look forward and/or play other similar tactical RPGs that are already out. For example, Metal Gear Tactics for the Nintendo Switch was announced a few months ago. There’s also Project Triangle Strategy, as well as other similar titles that you can sink your teeth into while waiting for Final Fantasy Tactics remaster news.
