Earlier this year, rumors emerged that Nintendo wanted to get in the animation space and acquire Dynamo Pictures, Inc. The later became true after Nintendo bought the CG animation and motion capture company, Dynamo Pictures, Inc. Then rumors stated that the video game company intend to rename Dynamo Pictures, Inc. With the launch of a website of that name, the two companies appear to have finalized the details of the deal. Nintendo Pictures will produce visual content based on Nintendo’s treasure trove of IPs. Nintendo provided a message on the new website, saying: Nintendo is currently working on a Super Mario Bros. animated movie with the help of Illumination, with the film scheduled for release on April 7, 2023. It will star Chris Pratt as the titular character, as well as Anya Taylor Joy, Jack Black, and Seth Rogan. We aim to have consumers around the world learn about Nintendo characters through video, and to create unique videos that will remain in their memories forever. To that end, each and every one of our employees will always think about what our customers around the world will find interesting, and we will work hard to create an organisation that can continue to grow by engaging in video production with interest. We will continue to challenge ourselves to continue providing unique and surprising images to customers around the world, transcending generations and eras. However, there is no indication that the company’s brand-new acquisition, Nintendo Pictures, will take any part in the movie’s production. Besides, when Kotaku quizzed Nintendo about the acquisition in July, the company said that it had nothing to announce at the time. Nevertheless, given the vastness of Nintendo’s IP, we are certain Nintendo Pictures has the content it requires to create a video game movie franchise equivalent to the MCU. The only thing left unknown is whether or not it has the capacity to pull off something with such ambition off.
