The partnership between Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures that started in 2014 has since birthed a cinematic universe filled with monstrous giants such as Godzilla and King Kong. This has also led to a renewed interest in Godzilla among audiences. Currently, multiple MonsterVerse films are in the works, including a Godzilla vs. Kong sequel coming out in 2024. Before then, fans can look forward to a different Godzilla film straight from the film studio that owns Godzilla. According to Toho, a new Godzilla movie will premiere on November 3, which is the 69th anniversary of the Japanese premiere of the first Godzilla movie. Unfortunately, Toho didn’t reveal more info about the untitled Godzilla movie that will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki. The upcoming live-action Godzilla movie is Toho’s first since 2016’s Shin Godzilla and isn’t part of the MonsterVerse. In addition to the MonsterVerse, several Godzilla and King Kong films are in development right now, such as:
Apple TV Plus’ Godzilla TV show (MonsterVerse) Godzilla vs Kong 2 (MonsterVerse) Skull Island TV show (MonsterVerse / Animated) Disney Plus’ King Kong TV show
Given the success of these titan’s recent outings, don’t be surprised if more studios try their take on these familiar gargantuan faces and add to the list in the near future. A few months ago, we reported on Legendary Pictures’ plans to cut ties with Warner Bros. Discovery. We haven’t heard anything about the said deal yet, but unless otherwise stated, it’s safe to say that all ongoing projects will proceed as planned.
