After reviewing well with staunch critics and pulling in good numbers at the global box office, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment confirmed that a sixthquel is coming.
Unfortunately, as the months passed by, we started receiving several pieces of bad news concerning Scream 6. For example, Neve Campbell, the face behind the franchise’s long-running final girl, Sidney Prescott, is not coming back for Scream 6. Series hopefuls wanted to believe that this was a joke. After all, not long after, we started to hear rumors that Campbell was keeping her return a secret to have a Spider-Man: No Way Home-type moment. However, it appears that this is not true and Campbell did not sign a new contract for future Scream movies without anyone knowing. Campbell denied the rumors at a Mad Monster Party Arizona panel. When asked if there was any truth to the rumors about her secret contract for Scream 6, Campbell responded by saying, “There is not I’m afraid to say. I’m sorry. Sorry guys.” TLDR; we might really have seen the last of Sidney Prescott in Scream. For what it’s worth, we can’t blame Campbell for declining the initial offer to return. She is the face of the Scream franchise. Without her, Scream wouldn’t be where it is today. Studio execs need to compensate her for what she feels is her worth. But, we also can’t deny that the Scream actress could be trying to keep her involvement under wraps. Paramount could also be looking for ways to bring back other legacy characters for Scream 6 after bringing back Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis for Scream 5. Campbell did let it slip that Scream 6’s story will involve Sidney Prescott. We’ll find out by next March just how the writers will find a way to write out Campbell’s involvement while still keeping her character a part of the story.
