Netflix doubles down on the Red Notice trio
Deadline claims that the writer and director Rawson Marshall Thurber is already working on the two sequels. More importantly, the subsequent films would see the three leads reprise their roles. Deadline also added that Netflix will introduce new characters to round out the ensemble cast. Deadline likened Netflix’s plans for Red Notice to the Ocean’s franchise. The series of high-octane heist movies was initially led by George Clooney and Brad Pitt before Sandra Bullock helmed the 2017 all-female spin-off, Ocean’s 8. However, Netflix itself hasn’t issued an official statement yet. But, judging by Deadline’s credibility, it feels like it’s only a matter of time. Red Notice was one of the biggest films to be released in 2021. Although the movie saw minimal success with its theatrical release, the movie went on to accumulate a viewership total of nearly 365 million hours within its first 28 days of release. This made Red Notice the most-watched Netflix movie of all time by a long shot. At the time, Johnson exclaimed that there’s not enough money in the world to bring all three stars back together again, but it appears that Netflix might have just proven the Hollywood superstar wrong. With two sequels on the cards, it’s clear that Netflix is committed to the budding Red Notice franchise. It remains to be seen if the initial plans will go ahead or things will change along the way. For now, all fans can do is to look forward to watching each of the film’s stars’ next projects. Speaking of, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s schedule is quite packed. The Red Notice star is set to make his DCEU debut as the titular hero in Black Adam on July 29. The upcoming superhero film might spawn an entire mini-franchise with several sequels and spin-offs. Meanwhile, The Rock has also committed to making a Jungle Cruise sequel. On top of all of this, The Rock is expected to close out his time with the Fast and Furious franchise with a second outing alongside Jason Statham in a Hobbs & Shaw sequel.
