Netflix dropped a trailer for the much-anticipated comedy horror series Wednesday in time for the Halloween season and it features some of the most loved characters from the iconic franchise. The trailer starts with an introduction to Wednesday’s new school Nevermore Academy. The school was founded as a haven for students similar to Wednesday. We’re also introduced to Wednesday’s new roommate Enid Sinclair. The teaser also shows that high school life in Nevermore is not quite what you would expect. Wednesday narrates “Nevermore continues to be a place where the questions far outweigh the answers. I won’t stop until I find the truth. I know the suspense is killing you.”
Familiar Characters
The trailer also reveals the popular character of Uncle Fester will be played by Fred Armisen. Netflix was previously tight-lipped about which actor will play the role. Some speculated that Johnny Depp was going to be playing Uncle Fester. Armisen reveals that he had to shave his head to play the role of Wednesday’s uncle in the show. He previously tried out wearing a bald cap but it did not turn out great so he had to shave off his hair to make it look convincing. He also praised the makeup artists for the show saying “they really did such a great job with the makeup and everything. I had no eyebrows. It was prosthetics over my eyebrows to give me that look.” His role is a stark contrast to Wednesday’s deadpan character. Armisen describes his character as a “mix of being a weirdo, and he also seems happy. He’s a happy monster. There’s nothing grumpy about him.” Another familiar actor returning to the Addams Family is Christina Ricci who will be playing as Miss Thornhill in the Netflix series. Ricci played the part of Wednesday in the 1991 movie The Addams Family and the 1993 sequel Addams Family Values. Miss Thornhill is one of the staff members at the academy. Jenna Ortega plays the titular role of Wednesday. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán will be portraying Morticia and Gomez Addams. The series is created by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and Tim Burton. The first season of the show will have eight episodes. Wednesday will be premiering on Netflix on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
