Talks of The Last of Us remake have been part of conversations in gaming circles for a long time. The divisive reception to the 2020 sequel only served as fuel to such gossip. But, it wasn’t really until last year that things started to gain traction. In particular, a Bloomfield report suggested that Sony was remaking The Last of Us as part of the company’s attempt to reorganize its first-party studios. Sometime later, a Scandinavian site leaked The Last of Us Remake and Alan Wake 2, the latter of which has since been confirmed.
Having said that, the latest bit of intel about The Last of Us remake comes from Neil Druckmann himself.
Druckmann is the co-director of the 2013 title as well as the sequel along with Naughty Dog’s several other games. If someone is going to direct a remake of The Last of Us, Druckmann is the perfect man to do it. So, we wouldn’t be surprised if he’s also the one to “leak” the game, as many believe following a recent interview. Druckmann’s peculiar attire in an Uncharted interview with Tom Holland includes a hat that reads “The Last of Us Part 1.” To no one’s surprise, fans quickly caught the particularly minute detail, with many saying that this is actual confirmation that the remake of The Last of Us exists. It’s also the perfect way to drum hype ahead of a potential announcement soon, which could happen after Uncharted premieres on February 18. For those that don’t know, The Last of Us sequel is called The Last of Us Part 2, so calling the first game’s remake, The Last of Us Part 1, makes sense. Ultimately, this is all speculation. Sony and Naughty Dog haven’t officially confirmed the remake of The Last of Us Part 2. But, with several trusted industry insiders claiming that the remake is in development, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before the announcement comes. Until then, all fans can do is sit tight and wait for more news. Interestingly enough, The Last of Us was not part of the infamous Nvidia GeForce leak. It appears that Sony intends to hold on to The Last of Us property as a pure PlayStation exclusive after already extending PC gamers an olive branch with God of War and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, among others.
