If that doesn’t evoke memories of slotting in quarters and playing through the classic run and gun arcade game for hours on end, then the latest Metal Slug game is probably not for you. However, if you’re dying for a Metal Slug game, then we’ve got some good news for you. As revealed during the August Nintendo Indie World event, Metal Slug Tactics is headed to the Nintendo Switch, so that you can run and gun while you’re walking around and playing on the go with Nintendo’s portable console.
When is the Metal Slug release date?
The new Metal Slug game was one of the most pleasant surprises that was announced at E3 2021. The turn-based strategy spin-off will serve as the first new Metal Slug game to be released on non-mobile platforms since 2008’s Metal Slug 7 for the Nintendo DS. Unlike its predecessors, Metal Slug Tactics is all about strategy and knowing where to place your troops on the battlefield to maximize their respective abilities. The game will also reportedly incorporate roguelike elements to make each run feel new and exciting. However, while Metal Slug Tactics is a new take on an age-old gaming franchise, it retains some of the things that made the series so iconic. For example, Metal Slug Tactics will keep the pixel-art graphics that fans have come to associate with it. It’s also going to bring back some familiar faces such as Marco, Fio, Eri, and Tarma. Naturally, because this is a Metal Slug game we are talking about, we can expect Metal Slug Tactics to feature its fair share of explosions and warfare as well. Metal Slug Tactics could still have plenty more features hiding up its sleeve - just what exactly these are is something that we’ll have to wait to find out. The game isn’t expected to release on the PC and Nintendo Switch until 2022.
