Well, the studio heeded the demand of its audience and started working on the two Black Panther spin-offs. One is centered on Danai Gurira’s Okoye and another was the Wakanda series that fans have been asking for. The show for Okoye will be focusing on the origin story of the Dora Milaje’s leader and how she rose to become the commanding officer of Wakanda’s elite forces. There is little information about the Wakanda series in terms of plot or characters. We know that both are projects that will be part of director Ryan Coogler’s five-year contract with Marvel. Coogler’s Proximity Media has been tasked to develop the Black Panther spin-offs and to co-produce the Ironheart series. Nate Moore, producer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, gave an update about the project. It looks like we may have to wait a little while before we get to see them on Disney+. Speaking with Collider, Moore tells fans that there has not been much progress with the spin-offs. “Because of the amount of time and attention that went into this film, and frankly the Ironheart show, that is probably not as far along as people want it to be, but there are certainly great ideas that we’re still talking to Ryan about. So, we’ll see how far we can get with it,” Coogler shares. It is no surprise that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ironheart would take precedence over the spin-offs. The film and TV series are both parts of Marvel’s vision for the Multiverse Saga. The new Black Panther and Riri Williams may have roles to play in the upcoming Avengers movies. On the other hand, the spin-offs are not time-sensitive shows and could be rolled out on their own time frames. One can call them supplemental material for fans of the MCU.
What can fans expect from the spin-offs?
The Okoye series, as previously mentioned, will focus on her rise from the rank to become the leader of Wakanda’s elite Dora Milaje. We may see her during her early days and how she trained and went on missions that were important to the kingdom. The elite Midnight Angels may also be part of the show. As for the Wakanda series, it may delve deeper into the inner workings of the Wakandan kingdom. From politics to its armed struggles against those who try to acquire its cache of vibranium. We may also have some more character development from the Wakanda show. Prominent characters such as Nakia, M’Baku, and even Queen Ramonda may be explored in the series. Fans may also get more insight into the technology and tribes of the former isolationist kingdom. We hope that after Ironheart, director Ryan Coogler can start working on the spin-off series. Or will he be setting his sights on Black Panther 3? Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is opening in theaters on November 11, 2022.
