An earlier report claims that the next Assassin’s Creed game will feature the Aztecs and hints that the new location will be somewhere in Central Mexico. But, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier disputes this. In a reply on Reddit, the investigative journalist claims that “the next AC game is Rift, which is set in Baghdad.” This would be in line with a report in February claiming that the next Assassin’s Creed game will feature Basim and was originally planned to be an expansion to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In Assassin’s Creed lore, Basim Ibn Ishaq is a Sage and the human reincarnation of the Isu, Loki. He plays a conflicted role in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so a game centered around his earlier days as an Assassin could help shed some light on his background. In addition, Basim grew up in Baghdad. This is further “proof” that he could be the star of the next Assassin’s Creed game. Speaking of proof, Schreier had more to add about the future of Assassin’s Creed. He said that the next game after Rift will be “AC Infinity” and that it will “include a bunch of different games/experiences/biomes/whatever you want to call them, I’ve heard about the main two and neither of them are Aztec.” TLDR; the same person that leaked The Last of Us remake for the PlayStation 5 last year is saying the next Assassin’s Creed game will not take place in Central Mexico. Ultimately, everything is in the hands of Ubisoft. Luckily, we’ll hear more from the French publisher in the next two months. Ubisoft will be at Gamescom 2022 with a Ubisoft Forward showcase scheduled in September.
