Whisper of the Worm: Mission Begins
This quest will take place on Io, in the Lost Oasis. You’ll need a serious group and some time on your hands, as you’re waiting for a Taken Blight event. You could be waiting for over an hour, so plan accordingly. Once the event is underway a Taken boss will spawn - not by the public event itself, but to the side in the back corner of the map, in the Grove of Ulan-Tan. Once you kill him, a Taken portal to the mission will appear. Fireteam leader needs to access the device, then your entire fireteam will be transported to the mission. You’ll have 20 minutes to complete the quest. The quest is broken into 2 parts, a platforming puzzle and a combat portion. A tether is very useful, you want to chain supers as this is a time-sensitive quest. Avoid weapons with void shields, as dealing with the Taken. Longer range weapons are great, as there is a lot of snipers. You can change your exotics in the middle of the quest. For the first part of the quest, there will be a lot of jumping and platforming while the second portion is all about dealing damage. So plan and switch your exotics accordingly.
Whisper of the Worm: Platforming
The platform section is the same each time, but it is a puzzle and is fairly complicated. It takes place in an underground area that is very expansive. For the first part, you will have you jump from ledge to ledge. Some of the ledges will have devices that can insta-kill, so be fast, but not reckless enough that you die. You may find it helpful to follow the red lighting that shows the path you should be taking. Once you jump the chasm and hit an island, there is another narrow area where rocks will edge out and try to push you off the ledge. On the ground you can see black sections are where the rocks push out, and the grey areas are safe. Time your running so you spend your pauses on the grey section of the floor, not the black. When you’ve reached the final red light cliff you will jump towards the left corner, move around and land on a blue ledge. Make your way to the elevator platform and get on it, and continue left towards a dark crevice. There’s a doorway on the left and blocks on the right-hand side that push you to your death so try to stay toward the middle. Lots of small ledges to jump onto and taken bursts are there as well. Time your jumps to make sure that you are in the air when it is bursting or jump as soon as it bursts. There are also snipers shooting at you. You can kill them, but it’s a waste of time. Don’t stay stationary and you should be safe. The door opens and closes, make your jump when it’s closed and it should be open by the time you arrive. When you arrive in the massive room with teleports you will hear a voice saying “you shall drift” and that signals you are moving in the right direction. Here, there is one correct teleport to go in, upper right, farthest back on the top is the correct portal. Finally, a large mossy room will test your jumping skills. Off to the left, there are very tiny ledges in the wall, keep ascending and you’ll make you way out of this room using the little ledges. You will end up right above the area where you first came in from. Work your way around the entire room. Eventually, you’ll jump inside a chasm. Once inside, aim for the mossy ledge. Crouch to find a secret passageway to the next area. Once in, you will hear a voice exclaim “there is no light here,” and as you’d expect, there is no light there! Continue forward through the open area. Pass a tiny ledge on the left, and you’ll see a massive crack that you’ll need to jump through. Eventually, you’ll make it through to a red doorway, and you are done with the jumping section, or rather, the most complicated section of the quest. The platforming section is unforgiving. It will take you about five to eight minutes if you do everything perfectly and don’t waste even a single second. Time is of the essence here. If you’re still unsure of how to make your way around or you’d like a second look, check out the video below for a full guide on platforming.
Whisper of the Worm: Combat
Now it’s time to switch your load out to dealing damage, rather than helping with jumps. You’ll have some high level, tough Taken enemies and Blights. You need to wipe all of the Blights and Taken, and a Sleeper or Sniper is very good for this as there are a lot of ranged adds. Chaining supers is important as this is time-sensitive. Also, try to revive your team as soon as possible as every second counts. In these rooms, there are secret caves, and in the caves are a nice place to hide and avoid adds while you pick them off from within. Continue clearing adds and blowing up Blight and moving through the rooms - there will be three rooms and then a final room will contain three bosses. Once you kill the Blight, the bosses will spawn and you’ll be mostly done with adds and can prioritize the bosses, as the second you kill the bosses you get the quest completion. The bosses are not to be messed around with, again, try to use the caves to help cover yourself in the beginning. You may be able to shoot from inside the caves between the large pillars when you first enter the boss room, and not be shot back. Once you move too far forward, the caves won’t help you, but you can get some good hits between the pillars at the start. Then voilà! You finally have a weapon with a chance to never run out of ammo. Enjoy the new weapon and the bragging rights that come along with one of the best weapons in Destiny 2!
