Although it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Gotham Knights, there have been two pieces of intel over the past week suggesting that the game will be here soon.
First off, there’s the tweet by Hogwarts Legacy News. The image posted shows a game store display case putting Gotham Knights’ release date at April 24. Naturally, this had fans excited, but it’s unrealistic to expect the upcoming Batman game to come out so soon. The lack of marketing a little over a month before then suggests that this is a placeholder date, which many appear to agree with. However, what is interesting is that observers spotted the developers conducting a playtest of Gotham Knights via SteamDB last week. So, even if an April stealth release is unlikely, Warner Bros could push Gotham Knights out to market by June if not May. This wouldn’t coincide with the streaming release of The Batman on HBO Max in April, but it will be close enough to ride the hype that the movie generated. In addition, a May/June release date will give Gotham Knights a chance to avoid a stacked Spring season. It’s a certainty that Gotham Knights will come out later this year. Unless plans have changed since January, WarnerMedia’s CEO Jason Kilar confirmed in a series of tweets that the company’s release slate this year includes both Hogwarts Legacy and Gotham Knights. Interestingly enough, Kilar’s statement did not include Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League although an earlier statement from Warner Bros’ official Brazil account did. There are also rumors that Sony will host a State of Play event in a few weeks, so we should hear more about Gotham Knights (and also Hogwarts Legacy) by then if not within the next month or so. Ultimately, Gotham Knights will be met with heavy expectations at launch. It’s not just that it’s the first Batman game in a while, but Gotham Knights is also made by the same studio behind the highly criticized Batman: Arkham Origins game from 2013. Not to mention, the game will focus on co-op, which isn’t usually associated with Batman titles. Speaking of Batman, Matt Reeves’ The Batman received glowing reviews from critics and appears to have won over audiences as well. Also, there are rumors that Batman Arkham Collection will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch later this year.
