“Superheroes don’t kill bad people. But I do.” - Black Adam
Dwayne Johnson reportedly pitched Black Adam to Warner Bros. and DC Films over a decade ago. Since then, the plans for the anti-hero have changed drastically. Initially, Black Adam was set to make his DCEU debut as Shazam!’s villain, but when you’ve got Johnson playing the character, it’s only fitting to try and give him a shot at starring in his solo movie, which is exactly what happened. Throughout the year, we’ve gotten glimpses of The Rock as Black Adam. Earlier this year, we got footage of Johnson thanking the cast and crew as he wrapped up filming for the upcoming DCEU movie. A couple of months later and we finally got our first trailer for Black Adam. All this time, Johnson has talked about how his presence in the DCEU will change the hierarchy, even going as far as to say that Black Adam will beat Superman in a one-on-one fight.
The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is changing. I’m pumped to share with you 🌎 our new @TotalFilm subscriber cover. This is the closest look that we’ve gotten of Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. Even the earlier trailer for the film didn’t give audiences a chance to see what Johnson would look like as Black Adam. Because of this, fans are understandably hyped. However, it remains to be seen if this is just Johnson, well, being himself and hyping Black Adam in his way. Black Adam isn’t set to premiere until July 29, 2022. Until then, WB’s slate of superhero movies will go through The Batman and DC League of Super-Pets first. In addition, fans can also look forward to another blockbuster in The Matrix Resurrections, which is set to hit the theaters and HBO Max in a couple of weeks. It would feel premature to try and kick off Black Adam’s marketing campaign right now, especially The Batman still set to launch on March 4, 2022. In other The Rock news, the Hollywood superstar is officially part of Fortnite Chapter 3 after teasing his earlier involvement as The Foundation. The Red Notice actor also recently gave away his truck to a Navy veteran during one of his movie screenings.
