With a combined gross of $4.5 billion at the global box office, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker made more in three outings than multiple commercially successful movie franchises combined. Despite the trilogy’s popularity though, not everyone is a fan of it. A common criticism among Star Wars fans is how the sequels disrespected Darth Vader. In particular, many took issue with how Disney retconned Darth Vader’s “redemption arc” by making it so Vader’s only accomplishment was to save his son, Luke, who would later push his grandson, Ben Solo, to follow him to the dark side. While many aren’t a fan of what Disney did what Darth Vader, Hayden Christensen doesn’t see it so badly. The prequel trilogy actor told Kakuchopurei in a recent interview that he “really enjoyed the sequel trilogy” adding that “it was great the way that [the sequels] honored [Darth Vader].” It’s definitely interesting that Christensen sees the sequel’s treatment of his character this way after portraying Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Christensen has also voiced Anakin in other media with a voice cameo in The Rise of Skywalker. Christensen is now set to reprise his role as Vader in the Disney Plus TV show, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Speaking of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the upcoming Star Wars TV series will enjoy a double season premiere on Disney Plus on May 27 following an earlier delay. Rumor has it that Obi-Wan Kenobi will tie into the Star Wars Jedi video games by Respawn Entertainment.
