GT’s dominance as a racing game has been challenged by several other titles such as Assetto Corsa and the Forza Horizon series. Both these games are present on PC while Gran Turismo has been limited only to the PlayStation console. Sony has been on a streak of successfully porting its exclusive games to PC. The company has previously stated that it wants a wider audience for its PS-exclusive titles, pointing to plans to have most of its AAA games ported to PC sometime after their release on the Sony console. After hit games such as Unchartered, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and God of War have been released to PC, Gran Turismo may be next. Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the GT series, revealed that the development team is considering making the title available to PC. GT Planet, a website dedicated to the GT franchise, got a chance to sit down with Yamauchi and discuss the possibility of a PC port for GT7. “It’s not a very easy subject,” Yamauchi said," but, of course, we are looking into it and considering it." However, the game director is apprehensive that the game may not run well on other platforms. “Gran Turismo is a very finely tuned title,” Yamauchi explained. “There are not many platforms which could run the game in 4K/60p natively, so one way we make that possible is to narrow down the platform.” It is a fascinating thing for Yamauchi to say about Gran Turismo 7. The racing simulation is technically a multiplatform game, as it is the first GT that was released on two different consoles. The PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5 have identical base games, and differ mainly in the resolution that is available. The PS4 only supports 1080p while the PS4 Pro has a better 1800p resolution. Meanwhile, the PS5 gives players the full 4K/60fps gameplay experience complete with ray-tracing on replays and in menus. Gran Turismo 7 also takes advantage of the PS5’s Dual Sense controller, making it a much more immersive experience on the platform even when using a controller, as opposed to a steering wheel. If Polyphony can create a version of the game dedicated to PC and accommodate a wide range of hardware specs then it would certainly be well received by gamers. It would also challenge Forza Horizon’s dominance on the platform. Yamauchi’s statement will give fans hope that the title may be next in line for a PC port. Having a Gran Turismo title on the PC is a huge leap forward for Polyphony Digital and the franchise. It will expand the reach of GT and attract new players to the game.
