Aliens: Fireteam is the latest title set in the sci-fi horror franchise. However, unlike the previous video game set in the Alien universe where you didn’t really have much in the way of defending yourself, Aliens: Fireteam is a cooperative third-person survival shooter where three-player teams must work together to fight hordes of Xenomorphs in a struggle for survival. The game is currently being developed by the San Jose-based Cold Iron Studios in collaboration with 20th Century Games.

What Is Aliens: Fireteam?

Aliens: Fireteam is set 23 years following the events of the original Alien trilogy of films. In the game, players will take control of a Colonial Marine. They’re aboard the USS Endeavor when they’re tasked to answer a distress call from one of Earth’s outer colonies and facilities that have been overrun with aliens. Sound familiar? In addition to facilities, the game will also take players to abandoned ruins and other places. All the action will take place across four different campaigns. Players can play with as many as two of their friends or play with AI teammates. Players will be face off against more than just Xenomorphs too, the foreign creatures prominently featured in the Alien franchise. The game will reportedly feature more than 20 different enemy types. In terms of gameplay, Aliens: Fireteam will have five different classes to choose from. The game will also have a wide range of weapons and mods afforded to them that they can customize. It’ll also feature advancements systems, as well as character progression, to help players in their quest to wipe out alien hordes and survive. A unique gameplay mechanic called the Challenge Card system is also being added to the game. This will let players mutate in missions and help spice up the gameplay even more with every playthrough.

Who are the Aliens: Fireteam Developers?

If the name Cold Iron Studios doesn’t ring a bell, we can’t blame you. Although the studio claims that they have been around since 2015, Aliens: Fireteam is their first game. The team, which is based in Silicon Valley, is filled with members who they claim are “industry veterans”. Their members have previously worked on titles like Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and City of Heroes. In the six years of their existence, Cold Iron Studios has already been owned by multiple companies. They were first owned by Kabam before they split in 2018. Then, soon after FoxNext Games bought the company. From there, once Disney bought Fox, FoxNext Games became part of Disney as well and they eventually sold FoxNext Games to Scopely in 2020. Following that, the mobile game publisher would go on to field offers for Cold Iron Studios and Aliens: Fireteam until Daybreak Games bought the company in August 2020. So, even though Cold Iron Studios don’t have significant experience in the field, at least relative to other studios, they have been working on the game for a while already. This minimizes the likelihood of the game launching with numerous issues and bugs.

Is There an Aliens: Fireteam Trailer?

According to their reveal, Aliens: Fireteam will launch worldwide in Summer 2021. It will be available for both last-gen (PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5) and next-gen (Xbox Series X and Xbox One) consoles as well as Microsoft Windows PCs.
