According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sci-fi animated series will be back on Hulu for a 20-episode run in 2023. Most of the original voice actors outside of John DiMaggio, who voices the fan-favorite robot, Bender, will be back for the revival. At the moment, 20th Television Animated is still negotiating with DiMaggio for a final agreement. But, if the negotiations fall through, the studio will have no choice but to recast Bender and find someone else, much to the disappointment of longtime fans. Bringing Futurama to Hulu makes sense as the platform is also home to other iconic adult TV shows. Case in point, Disney-owned streaming platform has Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers as part of its growing library, as well as the Animaniacs revival, and even original animations like Solar Opposites. If Futurama’s return on the small screen does better than expected, who knows? We might just see more of Futurama on Hulu on a more consistent basis. Having said that, fans don’t know what to make of the revival of Futurama. On one hand, some are happy just to get a chance to see Fry and the rest of the gang back again. At the same time, Futurama had already gotten a second lease on life before. After Fox canceled Futurama four seasons following its debut in 1999, Comedy Central brought it back for two more seasons. There’s some unrest among fans that worry that bringing Futurama back for the third time will do more harm than good. Then again, if there’s one thing that all fans can take away from Futurama, it’s that robots love to gamble. Fans should know more about Futurama as we inch closer to its 2023 release window. Speaking of revivals, Futurama isn’t the only iconic animated TV show that’s returning this decade. Both King of the Hill, as well as Beavis and Butt-Head, are confirmed to be getting a revival in one form or another.
