This will serve as the first official Six Days in Fallujah Gameplay trailer after it was revealed that development of the game will resume years after it was canceled due to controversy.
Here’s Our First Look at Six Days in Fallujah
Technically, February’s reveal announcement of Six Days in Fallujah came with a bit of gameplay footage. However, it was only a minute or so long at best and we didn’t really get to see much of how the game would look from the perspective of the players. More than a month later, we now have our first glimpse at Six Days in Fallujah gameplay. The first Six Days in Fallujah gameplay trailer swaps between gameplay video with voice-over narration and interviews with Sgt. Jason Kyle, who is a US military veteran that took part in the Second Battle for Fallujah, which the games take a lot of inspiration from. The entire trailer is nearly six minutes long. During that time, it takes great lengths to talk about what the experience was like when US forces started sweeping Fallujah. At the same time, the gameplay trailer explains how Victura and Highwire Games have taken great lengths to recreate the harrowing experience of the said battle. What’s perhaps the most interesting aspect about it are the procedurally generated levels. This makes Six Days in Fallujah quite unique for a realistic shooter. But, then again, this decision could also end up playing their favor. As the trailer explains, the procedurally generated buildings help make gameplay unpredictable. Perhaps it’s the right decision to make. An attempt to simulate what the soldiers deployed during that battle were feeling while fighting inside enemy territory could help spice up the gameplay of this controversial title.
The Controversial Title Draws Even More Flack
As you might expect, it didn’t take long for the gameplay trailer to make rounds all over the internet. In particular, many have already expressed their distaste of how the trailer seems to make battles like this look exciting and fun. Another aspect that’s drawing a lot of criticism is the choice to use procedurally generated levels. There are many that believe that it makes no sense for the developers to constantly change layouts if the goal is to tell a close recollection of a significant event. This is especially since that the intent of the developers is to make an interactive documentary. With that said, it’ll be interesting to see how the developers and publishers will try and justify their current decisions. As of right now, Six Days in Fallujah is expected to push through with its late 2021 release date.
