After Christopher Reeves, Cavill is the most recognizable actor to take on the role of Superman and he’s just as beloved if not more so. After the news broke out that he’s no longer going to be part of the DC Universe, the actor posted a letter on Instagram that confirmed the news. Many were sad that the actor will not be returning as Superman after all. Over on Twitter, angry fans used the hashtag #FireJamesGunn to push back against James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe. Some users have asked for the co-CEO of DC Studios to be removed from his position. Cavill has been getting a lot of support from fans on the social media platform. Gunn on the other hand has been bombarded by rants from unhappy fans. The fans of the Superman actor are demanding that Cavill be brought back as the Man of Steel.

Fans of the Superman actor have set up a Change.org petition to reinstate the actor. “Mr. Cavill is Superman and can generate an actual net increase to your brand worth $1B+ if you allow him to. James Gunn cannot,” the petition states. “What we wish to see of Superman is the same we wish to see of Batman; him in his prime, not Smallville 2.0 for more modern audiences.” “The solution is quite simple: a connected, stand-alone trilogy deal with Mr. Cavill as Kent/Superman. Fans asked the studio to rehire Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The petition was supported by over 429,000 fans of the director. Disney reinstated Gunn after six months to direct the final installment of The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. The petition to reinstate Cavill has garnered 3,500 signatures in just a day. Fans also made a similar petition for Cavill after he decided to leave the popular Netflix series The Witcher.
