However, several subsequent reports from a trusted insider as well as other peculiar happenings suggest that it’s only a matter of time before the master thief makes its way back to PlayStation consoles.
Back in October, XboxEra co-founder Shpeshal_Nick claimed that someone privy to Sony’s plans told him that a fifth Sly Cooper game was in development. Two weeks later, Nick made a follow-up tweet saying that the unannounced Sly Cooper project is still in its early stages. Although the rumor mill hasn’t churned out info on Sly Cooper much lately, the past few weeks have been different. Specifically, trusted insider AccountNGT has made multiple statements telling readers that Sucker Punch Productions is not in charge of Sly Cooper 5 and that it will be revealed in the second half of 2022.
— AccountNGT (@accngt) March 8, 2022 What is most interesting about the rumors of the new Sly Cooper game is that fans spotted the franchise’s official domain being updated a few days ago. You’d think that Sony would have been taken charge of the website already as Sucker Punch has moved on since 2005’s Sly Cooper 3. Instead, the site is still registered under Sucker Punch, which many have taken as proof the Ghost of Tsushima studio is circling back to one of its most iconic franchises. At the end of the day, only Sony knows what its plans are for the future. However, we wouldn’t rule out a new installment by Sucker Punch now that the studio has more time to kill following the successful release of Ghost of Tsushima for the PS5. In addition, a new Sly Cooper game could do well on the PS5, potentially mirroring the success of Ratchet & Clank after it was “rebooted” in 2016 before ultimately getting a sequel with 2021’s Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Unfortunately, Sly Cooper’s 20th anniversary doesn’t guarantee anything - Jak and Daxter also turned 20 recently but nothing happened.
