Rockstar Games, the company responsible for the highly successful GTA game series, announced in early 2022 that the next sequel, Grand Theft Auto 6, is in development.
However, the studio is otherwise notorious for being tight-lipped and this gives a chance for any associated GTA 6 rumors to flourish. For years, there have been numerous rumors and unsubstantiated claims surrounding GTA 6 and while there’s now an official confirmation of its existence, the rumors still persist. Unfortunately, some elements take things further: they take advantage of the lack of details about the game to scam unsuspecting fans. A few months ago, reports surfaced about fake GTA 6 ads on YouTube. While the purpose of these ads wasn’t immediately evident, it is not far-fetched to assume it was an attempt at data collection or something equally nefarious. The latest edition of this long-running farce is an online ad that has recently surfaced on the internet. First reported by redditor Ya_Boi_uh_SkinnyPeni on r/GTA, the ad invites internet users to visit a website and play the game for free. The fake ad’s creator went as far as creating a GTA 6 logo that could fool the average person. We cannot say for certain what purpose this ad serves. However, it is immediately apparent that the people behind it do not have users’ best interests at heart. According to reliable industry insider, Tom Henderson, the game is set for a 2025 release. Tom also claimed that GTA 6 will be set in contemporary Vice City due to the success of Grand Theft Auto Online. This appears to be corroborated by a recent Bloomberg report that claims the game will be set in a fictionalized version of Miami, with new updates over time. GTA 6 will also reportedly have the first playable female protagonist of the series. The woman is Latina and will be one-half of a pair of major characters. Rockstar Games’s parent company, Take Two, promises that the game will set creative benchmarks for not only the series, but the industry as a whole. For fans who have been waiting for a new sequel for almost a decade, nothing less is expected. However, it remains to be seen whether the company will live up to its promise.
