However, for 2021, the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted in-person, but outdoors. In addition to the outdoor venue, this year’s Primetime and Creative Arts Emmy Awards will require its guests to provide proof that they’ve received full vaccination from COVID-19 and a negative COVID-19 test within two days before the start of the event. The awards show, which will be split into four ceremonies for 2020, will limit the number of attendees to only nominees and a single guest per person.
When will the 2021 Emmys take place?
Because of the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 Delta variant and other potential mutations, the Television Academy is working closely with health officials in Los Angeles County to make sure that all the attendees are safe once the ceremonies start. As part of its numerous precautions, the Academy is requiring all attendees to have a negative PCR test and complete COVID-19 vaccination requirements. The Academy has also decided to host all four ceremonies inside air-conditioned tents nearby Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theatre. For the attendees, the date of their negative PCR tests depends on when they will attend. For those who will attend the Creative Arts ceremony on September 11, attendees will need to present negative tests at least on or after September 9. For those attending the September 12 ceremonies, attendees must have negative tests on or after September 10. The tests must come back negative on or after September 17 for those who will attend the primetime ceremony on September 19. The Academy has also made several other compromises by moving around the awards categories. For example, the Academy moved the Outstanding Variety Sketch Series and Outstanding Variety Special (live) to the primetime telecast on September 19. The 2021 Emmy Awards will air on September 19 on CMS and Paramount+. The Academy plans on airing all three Creative Arts ceremonies as one long show. The edited cut will air on September 18, a day before the primetime ceremony starts.
