According to recent reports, Emily Blunt is currently in talks to star alongside Murphy in Oppenheimer, a film that will star Murphy as the famed physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. Blunt and Murphy most recently worked together in the 2021 horror movie, A Quiet Place Part II.
What is Blunt’s role in Oppenheimer?
It wasn’t long ago that Christopher Nolan was shopping Oppenheimer to various studios after his displeasure at how his long-time partners over at Warner Bros. handled their release slate for 2021. Then, in October, Nolan found a willing dance partner in Universal Pictures. Since then, we’ve learned that the film will premiere on July 21, 2023, with Cillian Murphy set to take on the titular role. Now, it appears that Murphy’s Oppenheimer, the scientist behind the Manhattan Project and the eventual invention of the atomic bomb, has found his kitty. According to Deadline, Blunt is in talks to play as Katherine “Kitty” Vissering Oppenheimer, the wife of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Not much is known of the movie’s potential cast outside of Blunt and Murphy. However, Nolan is confirmed to both write and direct the movie. Meanwhile, Emma Thomas, Nolan’s long-time wife and creative partner, is going to work with him as the movie’s producer. It will be interesting to see how the movie will shape up given how much money and creative control Universal handed to Nolan to make Oppenheimer happen. For now, fans of Murphy and Blunt will have to watch each respective star in their TV films and movies.
