However, the studio might be developing the game on Unreal Engine instead of EA’s Frostbite engine which has been plagued with controversy since its development, according to a job listing on its website. Motive’s job listing seeks to recruit a Senior Level Designer to work on the Iron Man title. Among other things, the listing requests that applicants should have over five years of experience with video game level design, familiarity with developing single player games, and “familiarity with advanced game engine like Unreal.” While the listing doesn’t explicitly indicate that the studio will develop Iron Man with Unreal Engine, it requiring Unreal Engine experience seems to suggest development will take place on the game engine. The fact that Electronic Arts has ditched its Frostbite engine for Unreal Engine on some of its projects validates this belief. For instance, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was developed on Unreal Engine 4, with its forthcoming sequel thought to walk the same path. Rumors have also surfaced that the next Mass Effect title as well as the next Sims game will run on Unreal Engine. The announcement, published on EA’s website, stated that Olivier Proulx will lead the development team. Proulx has previously worked on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy title by Eidos-Montréal. The announcement went on to state that the “game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man.” EA also announced in its statement that the Iron Man title will mark the beginning of a collaboration with Marvel Games. In other words, the two companies will work together to develop multiple games over the coming years, including a Black Panther title, if a July 2022 rumor is to be believed. Marvel’s Iron Man is currently in development. However, late 2022 reports suggest it has begun playtesting.
