These two muscle-bound Hollywood actors first appeared together in 2011’s Fast Five. Johnson joined the tight-knit cast of the Fast & Furious movies as Luke Hobbs. Even though the film made $626.1 million in the box office (against a $125 million budget), it looks like it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, or so to speak. Johnson’s feud with Diesel has gone on for nearly as long as his character has been in the series of high-octane racing films. Although the two reportedly buried the hatchet back in 2019, it definitely looks like we won’t be seeing Johnson’s United States Diplomatic Security Service agent character aid Dominic Torreto’s much-meme’d family anytime soon.

Why is Johnson not appearing in Fast & Furious 10 or 11?

Speaking recently to Slashfilm, Diesel said that he had to show Johnson some “tough love” in order to bring out the best of his acting skills. A few weeks later, Johnson responded in his own interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I laughed and I laughed hard,” said the WWE superstar turned Hollywood actor. In the same interview, Johnson wished Vin Diesel and the rest of the film’s cast and crew good luck on Fast 9. He then confirmed that he won’t be in the next two Fast & Furious films, the latter of which will reportedly be the last. Of course, nothing is ever final. For one, we don’t know when the last two Fast & Furious films will premiere or begin production. It could be years before we hear news about Fast 10, let alone Fast 11. Perhaps time can heal the wounds in this case… or not. While it is indeed sad that we won’t be seeing Luke Hobbs appear together with the rest of the Fast & Furious family again, we don’t think that their careers will be hurting for it. Johnson recently starred alongside Jason Statham in the Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw. The film did well at the box office, making $760 million against a $200 million budget. Meanwhile, the latest Fast & Furious film, Fast 9, made $593.7 million at the box office in the middle of the pandemic. If it’s any consolation, Johnson is still going to appear in the Fast & Furious universe in a sequel to Hobbs & Shaw. He’s also set to star in Jungle Cruise alongside Emily Blunt and will be making his DCEU debut in 2022’s Black Adam, the production of which just wrapped up. Vin Diesel meanwhile has been sparking rumors of a potential sequel and video game tie-in to the sci-fi film series, Riddick, so it appears that we won’t miss seeing either of the Hollywood heavyweights on the big screen any time soon.
