EA and DICE’s pair of Star Wars Battlefront games have a special place among Star Wars fans. This is especially after DICE pushed through with its commitment to provide several free in-game updates and remove microtransactions from Battlefront 2. Unfortunately, a third Battlefront game is never going to happen. According to a Venture Beat report, people privy to EA’s affairs claim that the publisher’s decision to assign all Star Wars games to Respawn is bad news for Battlefront fans. EA recently confirmed that its Los Angeles-based subsidiary is working on at least three new Star Wars games. While Respawn has a solid track record, it still means that Battlefront 3 has completely fallen off EA’s radar. This is bad news for fans who have come to love and continue to support Battlefront 2. After a controversial start, Battlefront 2’s multiplayer component remains popular among Star Wars and FPS fans. If it’s any consolation, EA isn’t leaving Battlefront fans hanging. As part of its upcoming slate of Star Wars games, EA confirmed that Respawn is working on a first-person Star Wars game. Based on reports about Respawn’s upcoming “stylish shooter”, we can assume that the studio’s take on a Star Wars shooter will play a lot like Titanfall and Apex Legends. In other news, Star Wars fans won’t be wanting more in the coming years. Other publishers and studios are giving the sci-fi franchise a shot as well. Case in point, fans can look forward to TT Games LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga later this year. There’s also Quantic Dream’s Star Wars: Eclipse as well as the PS5-exclusive remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic by Aspyr Media.
