In addition to Diablo Immortal, Activision-Blizzard also confirmed that Diablo II: Resurrected is set to release in 2021 as well.
Two Diablo Titles Set for 2021 Release
2021 is a good year to be a Diablo fan. Most have spent years waiting for any official news regarding the next installment in the iconic dungeon crawler. Luckily, Activision-Blizzard has made up for it in recent months. In particular, Activision-Blizzard has started releasing more news about upcoming Diablo games, with the studio confirming that both are expected to release this 2021. In the aforementioned earnings call, Activision-Blizzard confirmed that the mobile-only Diablo Immortal is “on track for global release” this year. The California-based company also confirmed that the game has entered its second phase of testing. It’s worth noting that Activision-Blizzard had already launched an Australia-only technical alpha in late 2020. Diablo Immortal is already considered by many as Activision-Blizzard’s most divisive title yet and it hasn’t even launched. Diablo Immortal was first announced back in 2018. Since then, very little has been revealed about Diablo Immortal. So far, the two most prevalent news pieces about the mobile dungeon crawler were hat the game is part of the company’s push towards mobile games and that it will have at least six playable character classes. What’s perhaps even more significant news revealed during the call concerns Diablo II: Resurrected. Activision-Blizzard confirmed that they expected to release the remake this year too. Diablo II: Resurrected is a modern remake of the 2000 classic. It is expected to release on consoles and the PC. Most recently, Activision-Blizzard held a limited technical alpha for PC users. Because this was met with tremendous success, many speculate that Blizzard will release an additional, more extensive technical alpha prior to the game’s expected 2021 release date, specifically to help gather data about how well the game will perform on consoles. In addition to Diablo 2: Resurrected and Diablo Immortal, the fourth mainline installment in the Diablo franchise is also in the works. Diablo 4 will be set following events of Diablo III: Repeat of Souls. The next-gen dungeon crawler will see the daughter of Mephisto, Lilith, take center stage as the game’s central antagonist.
