Earlier this year, we saw the announcement and subsequent release of Resident Evil 4 VR. In addition, Facebook also confirmed that a VR version of GTA: San Andreas is coming soon. Now, it appears that Rockstar was thinking of a VR mode available in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.
Is Rockstar going to release a VR mode for GTA Trilogy?
Rockstar Intel reporter Ben Turpin found information about a functional first-person mode in the remastered version of GTA: San Andreas. He added that Rockstar and Grove Street Games marked it as a VR option in the back-end menus, describing it as a “little bit unfinished” that ultimately “plays pretty well” and “would be super cool for screenshots!”
— Ben Turpin (@videotech_) November 20, 2021 Judging by how it looks, Rockstar might have been attempting to recreate GTA V’s first-person mode in GTA: San Andreas. Either that or this is an early build for Facebook’s own VR version of San Andreas. Regardless, we do agree with Ben Terpin that Rockstar should have implemented this first-person option. It feels like a huge waste not to release it, although we do understand that Rockstar is probably trying to avoid potential legal issues with Facebook since it’s going to release something similar. Not to mention, Rockstar and Grove Street have far more pressing matters to attend to at the moment. Case in point, the swathe of gamers asking for GTA Trilogy refunds. Even though Rockstar has already applied the first major patch for the GTA trilogy, fans still aren’t happy with the way that the game is performing. The only silver lining here is that it looks great on iOS and Android devices, but this version isn’t releasing until well into 2022. TLDR; a VR version of the remastered GTA: San Andreas exists in the GTA Trilogy files, but don’t expect a full release of the first-person mode soon.
