After what should have been a celebratory night following his AEW World Championship win against Jon Moxley at AEW All Out 2022, CM Punk went off on everybody at the post-event media scrum. Punk’s scathing statements against Colt Cabana, Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, and the Young Bucks, eventually resulted in a backstage fight between him and The Elite, which is pending investigation. At the moment, CM Punk and the others involved in the incident have been suspended from the AEW. To make matters worse for CM Punk, the two-time AEW World Champion will have to give up the title. Now, things have just gone from bad to worse for CM Punk as it’s believed that the 43-year-old professional wrestler suffered a serious injury during the match that will force him on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. CM Punk is arguably the biggest draw in AEW; there’s a good reason why Tony Khan chose to book Punk to win the AEW world title twice this year alone. However, we can’t deny that the latest setback puts Punk at a significant disadvantage. Unlike other top-billing wrestlers, Punk has no legitimate backup option if he wants to continue getting paid a premium. f AEW fires him, it’s not like Punk can still come back to the WWE. Punk guaranteed that he’ll never step foot in the WWE again after walking out of the world’s leading wrestling promotion in 2014 and briefly retiring from professional wrestling to pursue, among other ventures, a career as a Mixed Martial Arts fighter. It will be interesting to see how Khan and AEW will recover from this latest setback. Khan is going to have to go back to the drawing board to find someone to pair with MJF as main event now that Punk is out for the rest of the year if not forever. At the moment, Punk does not have a timetable for his return from his injury.
