Fraser recently sat down to do an interview with Deadline’s Pete Hammond where he opened up about the emotional challenges he faced while filming his latest project, The Whale, and revealed his interest in reprising his role as the adventurer, Rick O’Connel, from The Mummy franchise. Fraser stated that he doesn’t have any detail about a potential sequel but wouldn’t be opposed to it. He continued, “I don’t know an actor that doesn’t want a job. I don’t think I’ve been this famous and unsalaried at the same time in my professional life, so sign me up.” While he has no idea what his next project will be, the George of the Jungle actor stated he will prefer to star in something he cares about. He went on to describe acting as something with permanence stating, “I’m starting to feel that there really is a sense of permanency in what we do. It really can reach people in a way that can change how they see the world.” The Mummy is a horror-action-adventure film loosely based on a film bearing the same name that came out in 1932. Fraser went on to star in all three of the mainline installments, which established him as one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. The franchise’s success inspired a spin-off series and an animated television series. The franchise also kickstarted Dwayne Johnson’s acting career as it gave him his first-ever starring role. In 2017, Universal Studios rebooted the franchise with Tom Cruise in the lead role as part of the Dark Universe. Unfortunately, the film flopped at the global box office and pretty much took any hopes of the Dark Universe ever being created with it. According to Fraser, the film failed because it lacked fun, which is what distinguishes it from horror films. Fraser would’ve played a significant role as a villain in the now-canceled Batgirl film.
