Activision Blizzard popped by at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase to give an update on Diablo 4 and, boy was it chilling. The latest Diablo 4 trailer reveals the fifth and final class coming to the game, the Necromancer. A series staple, the Necromancer bends the forces of life and death across to their will, summoning the undead to fight their battles, which, in this case, is Lilith and her demon horde. The Necromancer was notably missing from Diablo 3 at launch, so it’s nice to know that a member of the Priests of Rathma will be available from the start for Diablo 4. While it was nice seeing all Diablo 4 classes confirmed, the main highlight of the developer gameplay showcase at the Xbox and Bethesda event was more gameplay footage. Blizzard took its sweet time talking in-depth about how the game’s open world setting will work. Unlike its predecessors, including Diablo: Immortal, Diablo 4 will not have a traditional story campaign. Instead, players can explore an open world at their own risk, with nearly 150 dungeons to dive into and conquer. As for towns, players will have to liberate strongholds from enemies to turn them into human settlements or unlock even more dungeons to raid. In addition to the open-world setting, Blizzard also talked in-depth about Diablo 4’s shared world. In Diablo 4, players can play against each other in PvP-designed areas as well as work together to take out the game’s equivalent to raid bosses. Blizzard will also put a “bounty” on skilled players that continue to win and take out others in PvP combat. These highlighted players will drop additional bounty if they go down. Finally, Blizzard is opening Diablo 4 up to co-op gameplay, with cross-play, cross-progression, online co-op, as well as couch co-op, all available for the game at launch. If all this news has gotten you excited, you can keep yourself busy by playing these Diablo 4 alternatives while waiting for the game to come out in 2023.
