Things are looking up as BioWare just recently gave an update for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. The new community update focuses on how the lore and story of the game will be presented.
Dreadwolf, as with any other Dragon Age title, will be mainly story driven and there is much emphasis on the lore and characters. The RPG takes inspiration from fantasy titles such as J.R.R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice. Most of the discussion in the community update focuses on how the story of the game was written including interviews with several key members of the writers and editors. Senior Writer Sylvia Feketekuty explains that she tries to inject a bit of Dungeons and Dragons into her work with Dreadwolf. The sense of playfulness and unpredictability is what most fans love about the tabletop RPG. In the community update, the writers also touched on bridging the gap between new and older fans of the series. The writers are working to strike a balance to appeal to both audiences. Players who have not picked up a Dragon Age title will feel right at home with Dreadwolf. Feketekuty states that “Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has been a balance of providing answers to long-standing questions for veteran fans while making a game that new players, or someone who only played [Inquisition] years ago, can also get into.” Ryan Cormier, narrative editor for Dreadwolf adds, “it’s a varied audience, and development for Dreadwolf has included conversations about how the team can simultaneously reward our returning fans and welcome new ones.” It will come as a relief to fans of the series considering that Inquisition will be at least nine years old when the new installment is released. It would be hard to remember the lore of the game unless you have replayed it in the interim. The development of Dreadwolf is also quite a story. The game started its life in early 2015 and encountered a series of setbacks as resources were allocated elsewhere. The game was ultimately canceled by EA in 2017 and key members of the team left the studio soon after. The title was rebooted in 2018 with a live service component and re-used the code for Anthem. After the lackluster performance of Anthem and the commercial success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, BioWare decided to remove multiplayer and focus on a single-player experience for Dreadwolf. According to reports, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is on schedule for a 2023 release. The RPG will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
