Electronic Arts’ latest entry in its storied first-person-shooter franchise is celebrating its first year by giving players a reason to jump back into the game. The latest development video for Battlefield 2042 has revealed what’s coming to the multiplayer shooter, which includes multiple free-to-play opportunities and its arrival on the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (via EA Access) as soon as Season 3 kicks off. DICE hyped the upcoming season of Battlefield 2042, saying: According to EA, it’s already working on Season 4, and pre-production on “new content” for 2023 has begun. Vi är väldigt förväntansfulla! Season 3 will bring with it a new Specialist, all new Battle Pass, brand new hardware, and a new event, experiences and more with Battlefield Portal, alongside more improvements, fixes, and quality of life enhancements with each and every update. Of course, the bigger story is the multiple free-to-play periods for Battlefield 2042. If you still haven’t given Battlefield 2042 a try, you’ll want to circle these days below:

Battlefield 2042 was plagued with performance issues and a glaring lack of content when it launches last year. To make matters worse, Battlefield 2042 failed to connect with players at a time when they were looking for alternatives to the Call of Duty franchise. Things got so bad that EA’s chief executive, Andrew Wilson, told investors in May that the company will rethink the series “from the ground up” before reassuring fans it hasn’t given up on Battlefield yet a month later. If it’s any consolation, things have gone from worse to bad for Battlefield 2042. A spike in player numbers in July for Battlefield 2042 was followed by the infusion of fresh and new ideas, courtesy of Vince Zampella, the co-founder of Infinity Ward and the current Head of Respawn Entertainment. Things have steadily improved for Battlefield 2042 since and the publisher is hoping that a new audience on Game Pass will give it a necessary boost. Speaking of Battlefield, Michael “shroud” Grzesiek recently gave Battlefield 2042 a vote of confidence over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
