A trusted industry figure believes that Microsoft will talk more about the upcoming title at one of their events scheduled for April. The said event is likely to be Microsoft’s only games showcase between now and E3 2021 later in June.
Some Good News for Age of Empires 4 Fans
Because it will serve as the first new mainline title in the Age of Empires series - Age of Empires 3 was released back in 2005 - the announcement of Age of Empires 4 back at Gamescom 2017 naturally sent gamers into a frenzy. This is especially since Microsoft brought in Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes) to develop the game with it being exclusive to the Windows 10 platform. Unfortunately, outside of its existence, Microsoft hasn’t really talked much about the game. The last Age of Empires 4 news we got was back at the end of 2020. It wasn’t much too. But, then again, it does mean that we can safely assume that Age of Empires 4 is still in the works. Besides, fans haven’t exactly been left wanting more Age of Empires. Over the past few years, Microsoft has released definitive editions of the first three Age of Empires games. With the Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition already out, it’s safe to say that Microsoft will have a bit more time to dedicate to put a bit more spotlight on the latest game in the highly revered Age of Empires franchise. With that said, this news isn’t confirmed as of yet. However, GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb seems to believe that it is but a sure thing. He claims in one of his latest videos that Microsoft will have an event on April 10 where they will probably take the time to talk more about Age of Empires 4.
What Do We Know of Age of Empires 4 So Far?
Other than that it is in development, we don’t really know much about Age of Empires 4. Microsoft hasn’t exactly had a lot of Age of Empires 4 news to share in recent years. As a matter of fact, the last we audiences ever got a chance to see Age of Empires 4 in action was way back in late 2019 with the reveal trailer. If it’s any consolation though, Relic Entertainment and World’s Edge have consistently provided updates on the medieval RTS title. This includes letting players know that the game has been in a playable state for a while now. If nothing else, it’d be nice to see more of Age of Empires 4 in action, especially since it’s already playable. If you’re really itching for some Age of Empires content though, you don’t really have to wait for long. As we mentioned earlier, Microsoft has released Definitive Editions for the first three games. Not only that but an all-new expansion for Age of Empires 2: Definition Edition was released back in January after it got a battle royale mode last November 2020 with Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition receiving constant updates. Still, it’d be nice to see more Age of Empires 4 news sooner rather than later. But, if this news ends up being false, then maybe Microsoft can humor fans with an Age of Mythology remaster confirmation.
