Unfortunately, due to the mixed reviews and lower box office take of the 2013 sequel, a third Kick-Ass film never happened. While Kick-Ass 3 will probably never happen, the first film’s director, Matthew Vaughn, just confirmed that a reboot is coming by 2024 if not 2025.
The unannounced Kick-Ass reboot is “ready to go”
In a world where most comic book films are planned several years before their actual premier (you can thank the MCU for that), it can be quite surprising to hear that one is coming in the next two years despite very few details about it. However, this is exactly what’s happening with the reboot of Kick-Ass. In an interview with Screen Rant, Vaughn casually mentioned that a “f**king nuts” Kick-Ass reboot is coming in the next two years and that it’s already “ready to go”. He then explains that the reason behind the two-year wait is rights and that the reboot is “not what anyone could be imagining what it is” and that the new Kick-Ass “will scare the sh*t” out of the new actor or actress who will take on the film’s lead role. Unfortunately, Vaughn stopped short of confirming who is going to appear in Kick-Ass and if the original cast is going to come back in some way. Both Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who played the role of Dave Lizewski and the titular character, as well as Chloë Grace Moretz’s Hit-Girl, have since grown up a lot. The latter definitely wouldn’t fit her former role anymore. Then again, who knows? Moretz might end up playing Kick-Ass while Lizewski could go on to play the role of Big Daddy with a new Hit-Girl taking Moretz’s place. Of course, we’re just speculating here. The only thing that’s “confirmed” at this point is that a new Kick-Ass film is coming by 2024 or 2025.
