Square Enix confirmed that a Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary celebration will take place next week. According to the Japanese publisher, the 25th-anniversary showcase will start at 3:00 PM PDT, 6:00 PM EDT, and 11:00 BST on the 16th on YouTube and on Twitch. You can check out the official link below: Ten minutes isn’t a massive showcase and it’s definitely a far cry from last year’s Square Enix Presents. However, 10 minutes is also long enough for Square Enix to reveal its plans for the future of the iconic Final Fantasy installment, which has, so far, expanded to multiple spin-offs and remakes over the years. The worst-case scenario here is that we’ll get more news about Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis as well as the surprisingly good mobile battle royale title, Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier. But, we’d like to believe that Square Enix is better than that. Not to mention, the studio’s decision to pivot toward its core strengths following the shocking fire sale to Embracer Group, suggests that Square Enix is doubling down on what it does best. With Tetsuma Nomumra describing the stream as “short but sweet” and “packed in lots of information,” we have high hopes for what’s to come. Speaking of Square Enix, the publisher already confirmed that it has a different celebration planned for the franchise’s 35th anniversary on December 18. But, with only Forspoken as the sole upcoming fantasy title, it feels odd to end the year without a new Final Fantasy release. If we’re lucky, we might get to see Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 or, at the very least, a new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV.
